The Urban-Rural Hub Around Faringdon                                   16-23 June 2012

We all happily fill up our Green Wheelie Bins  - HOPING that it all gets sorted and recycled.  BUT HOW?

As part of Faringdon ECOWEEK, a visit has been arranged on Thursday 21st June to the state-of-the-art BIFFA Materials Recycling Facilities (MRF) at Edmonton (North London) .

The Edmonton facility is one of the capital’s largest materials recycling facilities (MRF) which will process nearly 10% of north London’s waste. Adjacent to major transport links such as the North Circular and the M25, the site has been fitted out with the most modern technology for the high quality processing of recyclable materials.

Edmonton is licensed to process up to 350,000 tonnes of recyclables annually, as well as handling a further 150,000 tonnes annually through its waste transfer station.

The facility has been designed to process both domestic and commercial dry recyclables such as paper, cardboard, plastic, metal and glass containers and other materials.

There will be a maximum of 16 people allowed on this visit; signing up is essential. Please email or phone 01367-241707 to book. There will be a charge of 10 per person payable on the day to cover transport. We will need to wear hard hats and high visibility vests, and it is also advisable that ‘sensible’ shoes be worn (i.e. no open-toed sandals). All visitors will also have to sign in for Health & Safety/Fire Regulations.

We leave Faringdon at 9.30am (Thursday 21st 16th June), arriving back in Faringdon at approx 2.30pm. Bring a packed lunch. Transport from Faringdon has been arranged. Pre-booking is essential. Email or phone 01367-241707 to book. There will be a charge of 10pp to cover transport.
